Andy Wells was appointed Chairperson and Chief Executive Officer of the Board of Commissioners of Public Utilities effective March 1, 2008. Mr. Wells has a Bachelor of Arts in History and Bachelor of Arts in Education from Memorial University, and did graduate work in Economics at New Mexico State University towards a Master of Arts in Regulatory Studies.
Mr. Wells entered municipal politics in 1977 as Councilor with the City of St. Johnís. He was elected Deputy Mayor in 1990, and was Mayor of the City from 1997-2008. He has held positions as a member of the Canada-Newfoundland and Labrador Offshore Petroleum Board (2007-2008), Board of Commissioners of Public Utilities (1985-1990), business agent with the Newfoundland and Labrador Nursesí Union (1984-1985), and national representative with the Canadian Union of Public Employees (1979-1984). He is a past member of the Advisory Board of the Ireland Business Partnership.
